New Climbers

BEFORE YOU CLIMB

  • All Climbers must have a current GVC Release of Liability Form (waiver) on file to enter any climbing area.
    If the climber is under 18 years of age, the waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. This waiver will be kept on file for one year.
  • All climbers must complete a Gym Orientation with GVC staff before being granted access to any climbing area.
    • This orientation is mandatory and will include an introduction to all of our climbing area, climbing systems, facility rules and policies.
    • This orientation normally lasts 5-10 minutes and will be kept on file with.

Three Options to Get Started

1. Drop by the Gym Anytime

  • No appointment or reservation necessary unless you have a large group of climbers (more than 6).
  • You have the option of a day pass, which lasts all business day (you can leave and return) or a membership, which is the best value.
  • We offer rental equipment for you too, everything needed for indoor climbing, and we will show you how to use it correctly.
  • Our highly trained Climbing Wall Association certified instructors will guide you through the orientation process and certify you to climb in our Auto-Belay and Bouldering areas.
  • Climb as much as your body will allow you, then climb a little more!
  • You will then be able to return and certify on other climbing areas after taking Introduction to Indoor Climbing Course.

2. Sign-up for our Introduction to Indoor Climbing Course

  • Call us anytime or drop by the gym to sign up for this 1 hour course.
  • Our highly trained Climbing Wall Association certified instructors will guide you through the orientation process and certify you to climb in our Auto-Belay and Bouldering areas.
  • We offer you all rental equipment needed for the class free of charge and show you how to use it correctly.
  • You will begin the class by learning the basics of indoor climbing, including the figure-8 knot.
  • You will also learn how to belay on top rope using two different belay devices (ATC and GriGri).
  • The instructor will guide you through practice session of the skills you have learned.
  • You will then be able to purchase a day pass and continue climbing for the rest of the day.

*Introduction Class students must wait 24 hours after end of class before attempting Top Rope Belay Certification.

3. Sign-up for a Private Lesson

  • Call us anytime or drop by the gym to sign up for a Private Lesson with one of our Climbing Wall Association certified instructors.
  • We require private lessons be scheduled at least 10 days in advance.
  • We offer you all rental equipment needed for the lesson free of charge and show you how to use it correctly.
  • The instructor will guide you through the orientation process and certify you to climb in our Auto-Belay and Bouldering areas.
  • The private lesson is totally customizable and geared toward getting you to your personal goals in a one-on-one training environment.
  • The instructor will be able to introduce you to top rope belaying if desired and get you ready to be certified on your next visit.
  • You will then be invited to continue climbing for the rest of the day without having to pay anything extra!

*Private Lesson students must wait 24 hours after end of class before attempting Top Rope Belay Certification.
